Whirled record

Im currently in the middle of an illustration brief at uni.
Its for a Nick Hornby book called 31 songs.
Its 26 short essays about 31 pop songs and what they mean to him.
supposedly to be published by The Folio Society ( its a hypothetical brief)
( The Folio Society make rad special editions of books with exquisite finishing )

I have already explored using defunct technology such as cassettes , vinyl and typewriters.
taking inspiration from the video Big Ideas ( Dont Get Any ) by James Houston.

Im exploring the idea of pop music being a guilty pleasure.
Just like Nick Hornby is in comparison to the classic literature that the Folio Society publish.

I visited this hectic Vinyl shop in Nottingham for inspiration.
In my research ive developed a home made record player from a cone of paper a box , 2 pencils some masking tape and a needle.
it surprisingly works if you can spin the record at a regular pace.

I found a very nicely made Paper Record Player by Simon Elvins.
you should check him out HERE
he's done some really sweet projects involving music.
inspirational.

here are the photos i am using for my illustration.
I hid pop music in classical music books.
Its a statement on the validity of pop music as an art form.
A point that Hornby makes within the book.
